The good times are over. That means finding an immaculately maintained, full-size luxury Lincoln, first hand, for little money.
One with low mileage, because the second car is parked outside the garage for daily use, and with great equipment and colour combinations. Those were good times, but they were 20 or more years ago.
This one brings back memories: First hand from William Luplow of Akron Ohio, well maintained, only 63,000 miles on the clock, unrestored. Great colour combination: light green (rare) with a green, perfect vinyl top and green cloth interior, much more elegant and beautiful than leather. The interior looks like new! However, the car has also been stored in a garage for over 20 years. Then it was forgotten. It sat there, covered, until the house, built in 1943, was abandoned and cleared out after the owner's death. So we had a lot to do. Not unusual, given recent experience.
First of all, the technical condition was assessed. The engine was in good condition, no damage from standing. Even the exhaust was in good condition! Unfortunately it didn't look so good for the 3 "wet" components:Fuel system: Tank and fuel completely rotted, fuel pump, lines and carburettor were replaced or overhauled. Brake system: Solid and rotted, completely overhauled with new calipers, pads, cylinders, lines, master cylinder and brake assembly.Cooling system: Also needed, new radiators, hoses, whitewall tyres badly cracked and replaced.Ignition system overhauled, ignition coil, cables, spark plugs and converted to maintenance free, contactless ignition system (series from 1973).Major inspection with change of all fluids, v-belts, windscreen wiper rubbers etc. was also necessary.Unfortunately the paint on the back of the bonnet and on the sides had suffered, so we repainted these parts.
Now it runs as it should: fantastic!
