A Cadillac or any car is only original once: when it leaves the factory.
This is usually when wear and tear or deterioration begins.
When you look at 1958 vintage cars at meetings today, you can see various stages of deterioration or
or "restorations" at different levels.
Not just one but several repaintings are now common.
A chapter in itself.

I bought this convertible in the 90s from my New Jersey Scout.
He owned it for several years and bought it at auction from a closed museum.
The car was originally bought by the first owner as a holiday car and was rarely used.
When the '58 arrived here in Germany it still had its first tyres on!
Mileage 11,800 miles!
In the meantime the car has been sold to two enthusiasts here in Germany who have maintained the condition of the car and also had it serviced by us.
The Cadillac runs perfectly and reliably. If you want, you can even take it on longer journeys.
This is tempting because the way it runs is very impressive:
No rattles or vibrations. The engine runs very quietly and you can put a coin on the air filter.
Perfect, smooth transmission. Excellent suspension comfort. A real pleasure!
This 58 is already registered in Germany with an H-plate.
